Analyst in the tech industry are claiming that PC motherboard prices may shoot up in April as a result of the earthquake in Japan that unfortunately damaged the buildings of several component suppliers. With the nuclear power issues in Japan which is causing brown outs the matter is expected to get worse. As a result is being said that the supply chain is expected to suffer from a serious shortages, which will cause the industry to face rising component prices and in turn cause the manufactures to pass that expense along to consumers with a price increase.

The state of New York has indicated that it will investigate AT&T’s proposed take over of T-Mobile USA for anti-competitive effects, including possible increases in mobile broadband costs for New York residents and businesses, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said.
New York is the first state that has committed itself to probing the $39 billion deal, which was announced on March 20 but is expected to take 12 months to close. At their current sizes, the combined telecom companies would have 130 million subscribers, dwarfing the next-biggest operator, Verizon Wireless, with 93 million. In a press release on Tuesday, the attorney general’s office raised the possibility of Verizon responding with an acquisition of Sprint Nextel, which has about 58 million subscribers.
“The proposed merger could start a process of consolidation that would lead to two firms -AT&T and Verizon – controlling nearly 80% of wireless subscribers nationwide,” Schneiderman stated.
Schneiderman said mobile service has changed from a luxury to a basic necessity and T-Mobile currently is a low-cost option for many New York residents. People in some areas, including Albany, Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse, already have limited wireless choices, he said.

With many versions of the Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor already on the market, Intel has assumed another CPU will not hurt the brand.
Therefore it is being rumored that Intel will release the Core i5 2310 processor which is supposedly 100MHz faster than the Core i5 2300. Read more….

With the Playbook supposedly launching in April, it is expected that RIM will a lot of their marketing budget on the corporate space. This is the best strategy for RIM since the company already has a strong presence in the enterprise space with companies that already use Blackberry services as part of their electronic communication infrastructure.
RIM is expected to leverage is clients existing investment in BES Blackberry Enterprise Server). RIM’s strategy gives Playbook a small advantage; since BES customers will be able to utilize functions like provisioning, configuring, applying corporate policies, application deployment/management and auditing PlayBook devices using the BES infrastructure that they already have in place. Intel had a horrible start in 2011 when they released the first Sandy Bridge Motherboards that had a faulty SATA bug. Nevertheless, it appears as if the first P67 motherboards with the B3-stepping silicon fix have finally hit the market.
Other Intel OEMs have also listed a number of B3-stepping boards, but are not available to consumers. The boards are probably ready, but they are stuck in a shipping container somewhere on the high seas and if Somali pirates don’t have their way the boards should be in Europe soon. Read More…

Verizon Wireless will join AT&T in implementing data caps in the very near future, probably in mid-summer, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo said at an investor’s conference Tuesday.
The exact timing for the move to a tiered-pricing structure has not been announced, however. AT&T squashed unlimited data plans for new customers last year.
Verizon has been selling the iPhone 4 since Feb. 10 with a $30 unlimited plan, which also applies to other smartphones it sells that are on the Verizon CDMA/EV-DO network.
Shammo said some of the details of the data caps and tiered pricing will come when Verizon launches the HTCThunderbolt on LTE soon. Thunderbolt will have a 4.3-in. screen and run Android, Verizon said in January. Read More….

As we have stated in the past, Microsoft officially rolled out the final release of Windows 7 yesterday to the general public.
Microsoft says Windows 7 SP1 includes all the previous security, performance and stability updates, as well as some major improvements to features and services to make Windows 7 perform even better. Microsoft advised users to use the regular Windows update process, although manual download will probably be the faster way to go. Read More……

Intel has stated that they intend to start shipping their B3 stepping 6-Series chipset chips by February 14th (today). If you missed the headlines on this fiasco, I am speaking in reference to Intel’s chipset that is plagued by the now quite famous SATA 3Gbps bug.
Intel is still sticking to its original announcement that it will ship these products by the end of February. The new stepping has several updates including the change of revision ID from 04h to 05h, BIOS update to 1.1.4 and minor metal layer change improving lifetime wear and tear with no changes to functionality or design specifications (the one that fixes SATA 3.0Gbps issue). Intel released some benchmarks results of its Core i5 2400, one of the new Sandy Bridge processors with 6MB of cache 3.1GHz core clock and four cores and four threads. The Core i5 2400 also comes with a Turbo feature and can run at much higher clock-speed than the 3.1GHz that is advertised. Keep in mind this depends on Turbo 2 conditions and current thermal environment.
In the benchmark observation Intel decided to compare current Core i5 650 3.2GHz core with 4MB of cache and two cores and four threads including Turbo to a new Sandy Bridge part. Read more….
